Herve Perez and Nick Robinson have been regular performers in the Sheffield improv scene for many years and have crossed musical paths in several random ensembles. For the last two years, they have been working together under the name of “String Theology”. The instrumentation consists of Nick on looped guitar, plus Herve on Shakuhachi and laptop. Their music is improvised and is a reflective mixture of electronica and organic sounds.

String Theology (Slight Return)

A distillation of the live recording I made with Herve Perez a few weeks ago. Good & chilled 😉

Me & Hervé

I really enjoy collaborations – they always seem to bring out an aspect of your musical character that you weren’t aware of. I had a fun session with local improv ace Hervé Perez recently, who played & treated some shakuhachis that he had made, along with some minimal drum loops. I added my usual loops & twiddles, captured live in stereo. He’s uploaded some of it to this site. I hope we can play live at some point….
